Miki Nakatani -- Amadare(雨だれ)

Met up with an old friend for lunch and then a viewing of "Avatar: The Way of Water". I never saw the first "Avatar" except for some scenes on YouTube, but I did enjoy this sequel, the first of many it seems like, although in some places it was obvious that James Cameron loved the special effects a tad too much and that near the end, it felt like I was watching an action-thriller video game without any controls. Still nice to see Sigourney Weaver again, though.

I thought then that maybe this particular song would be OK for today. "Amadare" (Raindrops) is a coupling song for Miki Nakatani's(中谷美紀)quirky 7th single released in February 1999, "Chronic Love". That single was quite bouncy with the singer/actress herself providing the lyrics and Ryuichi Sakamoto(坂本龍一)composing and arranging the music.

However, "Amadare" is a far quieter and more atmospheric song created by Nakatani and Sakamoto once again. It's synthpop about an inevitably deteriorating relationship between a man and a woman for which Nakatani sings that even touching the partner makes them disappear. The singer's whispery vocals and the languid synths contribute to a very hypnotic listening experience.
