Had a tough time even trying to confirm the pronunciation of this singer-songwriter's name, but after going through three Yahoo pages, I finally found it to be Genji Arai(新井現詞). So you can imagine that tracking down any other stuff concerning his biography and discography was next to impossible.
But I did find out, thanks to another song that he sang and wrote which managed to find itself on one of my "Light Mellow" CDs, that he is a guitarist. Not only that, but he enjoys playing and creating songs with some of that bossa nova influence and is known for his high-toned vocals. In fact, I'd say that Arai reminds me of Chiharu Matsuyama(松山千春)when it comes to his voice.
Now the song that got onto "Light Mellow" isn't the subject of this article but I did manage to find another Arai tune that was the first track on his one and only album "Impression" from 1982. "Kaze no Memory" (Memory of the Wind) is a breezy sunset tune with that hint of bossa which can be categorized as an AOR or a City Pop tune right on the shore where a swanky seaside bar resides. Cocktails for two?
