As one commenter put it on YouTube, I can't quite hear the lyrics by Denise Routt for Kimiko Kasai's(笠井紀美子)"Nailed in the Pocket" but I can't deny the cool slow groove of her music.
A track on Kasai's 1984 "Love Talk", an album that I would love to get someday on the shelf, "Nailed in the Pocket" is simply mellowness put to music. I'm not sure whether Routt had any connection with Quincy Jones but the song sounds like it would have belonged quite snugly on his 1981 "The Dude" album. And wouldn't it have been something if Kasai herself got to sing on that classic? Not exactly certain about what the title is all about but I got a feeling that it's really pertaining to any financial ailments.
"Nailed in the Pocket" also shares album space with another popular Kasai number, "Mmm Mmm Good". Kasai may have been a jazz singer but her 80s soul period was indeed something else.
lyrics:
ReplyDeletelet your godshots be your guide
careful who that you confide in
cause the preacher's in the right
and the edhb is tdjf (can't make out)
don't you know? don't you know, baby
our love just took off like a rocket
you know this love is a nail in the pocket with you
well now, baby
our love just took off like a rocket
you know this love is a nail in the pocket with you
some remorse that I don't share
I don't give love without reason
this how you handle me with care
and the oceans are so busy
now remember why we're first to take the chance*
to start into a new romance
that heart keeps burning on and on and on
and oh don't you know, baby
our love just took off like a rocket~
you know this love is a nail in the pocket with you
well now, baby
our love just took off like a rocket-
you know this love is a nail in the pocket with you
(x1 *) (x2 ~) (x7 -)
Thanks very much for the lyrics!
