bird -- Flash(フラッシュ)

Singer-songwriter bird celebrates her 25th anniversary as an artist this year and it's been almost a dozen years since I first posted her revelatory "Souls" debut single onto the blog.

For a while, I'd thought that this particular song was a new one from bird's arsenal (the official video had only been posted on YouTube in the last week) but actually "Flash" is a single that first got released in August 2002 as her 16th single. Apparently, it didn't register on Oricon which is a shame because it's got that old groovy soul that I've always cherished in a song, but that's OK. We old souls know what we like, don't we? It's kinda reminiscent of Grover Washington Jr.'s "Just the Two of Us".

The singer was responsible for the lyrics while Lori Fine from COLDFEET came up with the cool music. For some reason, the YouTube page has the title of the song spelled as both "Flush" and "Flash". Somehow I think I prefer the latter romanization. I'm also happy to observe that bird has a 25th anniversary album coming out in September according to her website.
