"Kono machi e oide yo!"
Well, since you ask so nicely...😅
"Kono Machi e Oide yo" (Come on Over to This Place) is a track on singer-songwriter Keiko Maruyama's(丸山圭子)3rd album "Haru Shigure"(春しぐれ...Spring Showers) which was released in March 1977. Kinda like the various Japanese terms for the word "sunset", I think "machi"(街)also been an oft-used word in many kayo kyoku over the years but I was always wondering about the definition because it can mean either "street" or "town". Even knowing that a town is a rather small urban area, I think that there is quite a difference between a street and a town.
However, considering how invitingly Maruyama says the title, I figured that I would split the difference and go with the neighbourhood. In any case, this "Kono Machi e Oide yo" was written and composed by the singer and it is some wool swaddling of a song as she kittenishly asks a boyfriend to come on over to her place once more, lyrically to listen some of those beloved West Coast AOR tunes; practically, maybe something more physical but I'll leave that to your imagination (personally, I'd hope that there will be food and refreshments included as well). 😝 At the same time though, I can also read from her words that she's actually waiting for her favourite singer to come back onto the radio with that wonderful song.
Overall, "Kono Machi e Oide yo" is a comfy City Pop/AOR tune with a hint of disco and a good dollop of Sunshine Pop that brings back those feelings of nostalgia and relaxation. And since I did mention "twilight", maybe it's also the ideal song for that particular time of the day while wrapping one's fingers around a cocktail.🍸
